Knowing (And Owning) Your Worth
Last month one of my favourite clients asked if I’d be open to stepping into a COO leadership role in her company.
She sent me a message saying this:
“Ash, I couldn’t do this without you and I think the business’ next up level is for you to step into the COO shoes and truly run the operations of this business. So I can live in a visionary role doing the things I love most like writing and creating and sharing.”
Now, after receiving a message like that, you might think my first thought would be along the lines of, “I have my own business to be the COO of”, or “I don’t have time for that”, or “What an honour!”.
You’d be wrong.
An Old Friend Appears
As I re-listened to her message, feeling as though I might literally throw up from fear, this was my first thought:
“I’m not a COO.”
Yep, Cruella came screeching into my head and started running off reasons as to why I couldn’t do it like she was keynoting a TED talk.
(For those wondering, Cruella is the name I’ve given to the negative voice in my head that tries to stop me from taking leaps that lead me to the greatest places.)
Everyone has one. The one that sometimes whispers and sometimes shouts at you, saying things like…
”You’re not good enough. “
“You don’t have the skill sets needed.”
“You aren’t strong enough to overcome the obstacles you’ll face.”
“You aren’t worthy of success. “
“You aren’t deserving of love. “
Sound familiar?
I thought so.
Stepping Into Your Worth
Knowing and owning our worth is one of the most challenging parts of being an entrepreneur. We deal with imposter syndrome on a daily basis and some days, it’s a struggle to even show up.
The key?
Holding onto your why. Why you do what you do. Why you want to make an impact. Why you want to show up every day.
Don’t get me wrong, some days are going to be hard.
But when you get those wins?
Find those successes?
It’ll make it all worth it. I promise.
As for me?
Well, I ended Cruella’s TED talk, chucked her out, decided to step into the role and you better believe, I’m loving every single moment of it.
Let this be your reminder to recognize why Cruella is shouting, heal the root cause, and tell her to SIT DOWN cause it’s your time to shine, rise and thrive and empower others to do the same!
