My 2023 In / Out List

Every year, I like to spend some time reflecting on the successes, wins (both big and small), challenges, and lessons learned throughout the previous year and create a "What's In / Out List" for the new year! This not only helps me learn from, grow, and process the experiences from the past year, but it helps me stay focused and intentional heading into the new year. So without further ado, my 2023 IN / OUT list is here, and I'm not holding a damn thing back!

What’s IN for 2023?

When you focus on what’s IN for 2023, you’ll find yourself being more intentional with your time and energy and taking care of YOURSELF and what you need to thrive.

This is what’s IN for 2023:

  • Invoices paid on time.

  • Kind clients.

  • Positive interactions.

  • Setting boundaries.

  • Respecting boundaries.

  • Unplugging.

  • Mental health days.

  • Wellness.

What’s out for 2023?

When you stand strong and hold your boundaries firm around what’s OUT for 2023, you’ll be able to let go of the shit that doesn’t serve you and create more space and energy for the things (and people) that do.

This is what’s OUT for 2023:

  • Unpaid invoices.

  • Insensitive clients.

  • Negative clients.

  • Clients who disrespect boundaries.

  • Repeated indecisions by clients.

  • Burnout culture.

  • Negative self talk.

  • Ignoring mental health.

How to find aligned clients.

You might be wondering now, how do you find aligned clients that respect your boundaries and check all the boxes on your IN list? It all starts with your initial consultation call! Treat this consultation call as a two-sided interview and conversation.

The biggest misconception about consultation calls is that they are ‘just’ for the client to determine if you are a good fit for them. That is not the case at all! In fact, I teach my students inside The Foundation to take a leadership role during the consultation so that you can see if the potential client is right for YOU as the service provider.

The purpose of this consultation call is to determine if you are a good fit for EACH OTHER, so you both should be asking the questions necessary to make that determination for yourself. Of course, your prospective client is determining whether or not you and your services are a good investment, but at the same time, you should be assessing if that potential client is giving red flags.

Take the time on your consultation calls to truly get to know who your potential client is and pay attention to the red flags and vibes you get throughout the conversation. If you don’t feel in your gut that it’s in alignment for you, then have the confidence to let the opportunity pass and hold space for an opportunity that is a 100% HELL YES for you, because THAT is what's really IN for 2023.
