3 Tips For Setting Your Prices as a Virtual Assistant

Whether you’re a brand new virtual assistant just starting out or you’ve been in business for a while, setting your prices can be tricky. When it comes to pricing your services and knowing your value as a service provider, the online space can feel like uncharted waters. There isn’t a lot of transparency around money and many providers don’t even include their prices on their website or in their portfolio. It’s become a game of showing and not telling.

Here at AK/VA, we believe in full transparency, which is why we don’t gate-keep our secrets to financial success (or hide our prices!) Read on for our top 3 tips for setting your prices as a virtual assistant.

Tip #1: Do Your Market Research

See what is happening in the market by doing your research to get an idea of what other service providers are charging for similar types of services that you’re going to provide. Look at what types of packages they offer, what services are included, and what price point they’re at.

Do this market research for about 7-10 providers so you get a good baseline to set your prices from.

Tip #2: Assess Your Skill Level

Determine what your strongest skills are and how advanced you are in those skills. Consider your past experience, any degrees or certifications you have, and results you’ve gotten past clients. Then, compare that against your market research to determine how your skill level aligns with theirs.

Tip #3: Make Sure It Feels Good

Above all else, make sure the price you land on feels good to you. You don’t want to charge so little that you end up resenting your business, your clients, or the services you’re providing. You want to feel confident in your prices and like you’re charging your worth for the services you’re providing. Know your worth, add tax, and make sure it feels good to you.

Remember, if you feel like you’re undercharging as a virtual assistant, you probably are! Keep these 3 tips in mind every time you go to set or raise your prices as a virtual assistant.
