4 Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Program

Investing in programs to help streamline your business and scale more quickly and efficiently is a big decision. Not all programs are created equally and not every program will be right for your specific business and needs. After nearly six years into a business where I often dive into other business owners' systems, there is a pattern I see repeatedly when it comes to programs. Read on to learn what the pattern is plus 4 things you should consider before purchasing a new program for your business.

The Pattern I See Most When It Comes To Programs

When I start working with a client, we always do a deep dive into their current business model, systems, processes, programs, and tech stack. So often, I find massive lists of outstanding tasks, programs that are only halfway set up, duplicates of the same types of programs, and programs that are not being used or have been forgotten.

As a business owner myself, I get it. Our to-do lists can change directions at the drop of a dime and it's difficult to carve out time to dive into a new program, learn a new system, and take the time to set up new processes and customize them for our business. It seems like there is always a task or project that's a higher priority than diving into a program we've just purchased.

Adding programs to your business just because everyone in your industry is doing it is not a good enough reason. Programs will only be beneficial if they are the right fit for your specific business.

If they are, you must schedule in the time to learn them, tailor them to your business, and USE them! Systems have to be learned and utilized appropriately to benefit you. Plus, if you never take the time to fully implement these programs, you’re only wasting your hard-earned money and cluttering up your digital and mental space.

4 Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Program

It takes a lot of time and effort to work through a program and integrate the new system or strategy into your business. However, the benefits of having them in place greatly outweigh the undertaking of adding something new.

Before purchasing a new program, consider these four things:

  • The program is the right fit for you and your business right now.

  • You're not just purchasing it because others in the industry have, but because of the direct benefits you see it will have in your business.

  • You or someone on your team has the time required to set up and implement it fully.

  • You or your team knows how to manage it appropriately.

Systems are designed to make your business run smoother, so do your research, find the programs that are right for you and your business and are able to be managed and fully implemented. When you give these programs the time of day, they’ll literally give you time back into your day.

Remember, don’t go purchase the latest version of a program or a shiny new program that you don’t need or can’t manage. It won't solve your problems and will only create more stress and overwhelm.
