Is It A Trend Or Shiny Object Syndrome?

Trends are exciting, especially in the business world. We often see our fellow entrepreneur friends trying out a new strategy or an online marketing guru forging a new path with a new approach and immediately think that we need to do what they’re doing.

We think we need to be on top of all the trends in order to make sales and be successful.

Honestly, there’s a bit of a popularity contest involved when it comes to trends, because we think if we DON’T participate, we’re going to miss out and people won’t see us as the “cool, savvy” business chick doing the latest Reel or marketing trend.

But here’s my hot take on trends:

They are not always a good thing. They are often shiny object syndrome in disguise.

We may think that the shiny object is a sign that we need to hop on the next new thing. But let me tell you, staying authentic to yourself rather than jumping on the hottest and latest trend will always lead to more success.

Don’t just do what everyone else is doing because you think it’s trendy or you’ll have FOMO (fear of missing out) if you don’t.

You have to ask yourself this very important question in order to avoid shiny object syndrome:

Is this just shiny object syndrome or does this actually align with me and my 'why'?

Frequently asking yourself this question will help you be more authentic in the decisions you make for your business.

Stay true to who you are and what your why is. If it doesn’t feel aligned or you are absolutely not excited about it, bless and release it!

I've personally had this mental block around showing my own face on Reels. For so long, I just couldn't tell if it was the right move for me.

It didn’t feel totally aligned yet and I hadn’t quite figured out my unique lane in the Reels world.

However, after getting to chat with “my people” on my Instagram lives and seeing the amazing response to my videos, I think I’m finally realizing how I can utilize the Reels trend to match MY personality and ‘why’.

I don’t look at this as me being behind the 8-ball on this trend. I look at this as me taking the time I need to feel fully aligned with what I put my time and energy into so I can deliver the best value to my people that still feels good to me.

Be sure to leave a comment or send me a DM on Instagram and let me know what you’d like to see from me on my Reels!
