What Happens When The Social Media Giants Go Down?
Hello? Facebook? Instagram? WhatsApp? Are you there?
It was 11:12 am yesterday morning when my team and I were humming along checking off our to-dos, when all of a sudden, we couldn’t access a client’s Instagram….or their Facebook…or even reach out to them on WhatsApp.
And it turns out that it was due to a global app outage. I know that you know allllll about it!
But it was a little bit of a shock that so much of my client work depends so heavily on social media.
We spend so much time building our businesses, engaging with our audiences and showing up on social media.
But what happens when we don’t have access to them?
Unfortunately, app outages are something that can happen and when they do, we are left wondering how we reach out to the huge audiences we’ve spent years building.
And even though the social giants returned exactly as the business day was supposed to come to a close, we were forced to stop the scroll for a few hours.
Be honest.
How many times did you notice yourself picking up your phone and trying to scroll?
Probably an embarrassing amount, right?
I hardly knew what to do with myself because the habit of picking up my phone, unlocking it, and swiping is so second nature to me. I own a business, I’m building a following on social media, and I’m even building a ton of other social media accounts for my clients.
But you know what I did instead?
I took that time to soak up some Vitamin D and clear my mind. I chucked my phone down and walked away. Yes, that was after around the 12th time of compulsively checking it, but I did it.
You see I’m learning the value of taking the break when the break is handed to you.
It hasn’t been an easy process, as I’m an all-in, all-or-nothing kind of girl. As an entrepreneur, my business is a part of who I am, and at times it can become all-encompassing. But I fully appreciated the social giant’s blackout.
I took that time to refill my happy cup, to ignite my creative juices, and accepted the little break I was given.
And I highly encourage you to do the same.
