How To Prepare To Hire A Virtual Assistant
Are you drowning in all of the day-to-day tasks in your business? Is the freedom you crave from your business just out of your reach because you have too much on your plate? If you are feeling bogged down and pulled in a million directions, it may be time to hire a virtual assistant.
What Is A Virtual Assistant?
A virtual assistant (VA for short) is a person who provides administrative, technical, or creative support services to an entrepreneur or small business owner virtually or from a remote location.
You can work with a VA on a project basis, where they come in and deliver a set number of deliverables, such as blog posts, emails, graphics, etc. You can also work with a VA on a monthly basis where they work a set number of hours each month, providing services agreed upon in your contract.
When preparing to hire a Virtual Assistant, you must plan for where you are going, NOT where you are now.
Think about what your zone of genius is and what tasks you are doing that force you to leave that zone of genius. These are the tasks that you can delegate to a VA.
While delegating tasks to a VA is an essential part of business growth and reclaiming your time and freedom, it’s not always easy to delegate tasks in your business to someone else.
Your business is like your baby, something you’ve worked so hard to grow. However, the fear of delegation can cost you money, time, and happiness.
How To Delegate To A Virtual Assistant.
To help ease the fear of delegation and prepare to hire or onboard a virtual assistant, there is a super simple, yet powerful exercise that any entrepreneur can do.
To complete this exercise, take out a physical notebook, NOT the Notes app on your phone or a Google Doc. Keep this notebook in your purse, on your desk, or beside your laptop. Wherever you are working, your notebook should be open and ready.
As you complete tasks in your business, write them down in your notebook every time you say one or more of these things to yourself:
I hate doing this.
That took me way longer than it should have.
Somebody else could do this way better than me.
This list becomes the list of tasks that you can delegate to a VA!
Once you hire a virtual assistant, that doesn’t mean you have to put your notebook away. Keep it nearby at all times and continue to add to this list and delegate tasks to your VA as time goes by.
